Video: Layers of Loss and Glimmers of Gratitude

Presenter: Heather Servaty-Seib

The messages we receive from society often suggest that the death of a loved one involves only one loss. In reality, the death of someone we love is connected with a whole range of and many layers of loss. The emphasis on this reality is not intended to weigh grievers down but rather to validate and acknowledge the extent and breadth of their grief. This webinar will introduce attendees to the gain/loss framework (Servaty-Seib, 2014) and provide practical suggestions for personally and professionally using the framework to conceptualize death and dying-related experiences. Human beings are dynamic and complex and they perceive a unique profile of losses and (potentially) gains/lessons learned associated with particular life events.
