Saturday Morning Message: Memorial Day Weekend

Author: Carol Lane

Good Morning,

On Memorial Day, survivors can be found in many different places at events that honor those who served in our country’s military and gave their lives.

Some are at the 23rd Annual TAPS National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp, others can be found at an activity in their home state, still others may choose a location that is special to their loved ones, and some may prefer to stay at home.

Memorial Day

Wherever you chose to spend this Memorial Day, you are in the right place and the thoughts of your TAPS family are with you. If you find you would like to talk to someone at TAPS, please call 800-959-TAPS (8277) anytime as our helpline is available 24/7 for support.

At TAPS, we honor and remember our fallen heroes on Memorial Day and every day. We encourage you to share the legacy of your fallen hero with others by adding your loved one to the Grateful Nation Memorial Hero Wall.

Questions are the backbone of the Saturday Morning Message. In order to keep the Saturday Morning Message fresh, I am looking for more questions as well as songs that have meaning to you. If you have questions or topics you would like to see addressed in the Saturday Morning Message, you can email me at online@taps.org. I directly receive all responses that are sent to this address. In addition to replies that are placed in the message, I also look for thoughts you have. You can write to me anytime just to communicate or to share your thoughts on what could make the Saturday Morning Message more helpful. Replies to the weekly question are best sent to me by Tuesday afternoon. You are an important part of this message, and I look forward to your questions or any ideas you may have.

Hugs,
Carol

Question for Next Week’s Saturday Morning Message

Responses to this question: What did you do over the Memorial Day weekend? will be posted in the June 3 Saturday Morning Message. Let’s share our activities with each other. The responses to this question should be sent to me by Tuesday, May 30. If you are attending the seminar, share an event or workshop you found most helpful. This way others will know what happens at a TAPS Seminar.

Song for the Week

I thought this would be the perfect song for this weekend since it includes the themes for all the United States Armed Forces: Armed Forces Medley 2016 (National Memorial Day Concert).”

About the Saturday Morning Message

The Saturday Morning Message (SMM) is a weekly communication contributed by survivors. The primary focus of the SMM is to foster peer-based connections for support and encouragement. It is the goal of this communication to foster a safe, supportive place where we can openly share in a nonjudgmental and caring manner. Read and contribute as you are comfortable. Content submitted for the SMM is edited for space considerations and may be used in other TAPS publications. The loving family at TAPS is available to you 24 hours a day. Please call 202-588-TAPS (8277).
