Young Adult Atlanta Experience
Young Adult Experiences offer real world life skills to military surviving children and siblings, ages 18 to 25. The purpose of this is to ease the transition into adulthood for our young survivors as we guide them through finding answers to everyday questions they can no longer ask their deceased parent or sibling. The 5 Pillars of the Young Adult Program are personal development, career development, financial stability, self care, and service to others.
Space is limited for this event, so please complete the application as soon as possible.
The TAPS Young Adult Atlanta Experience will 6 days/5 nights of growth, healing, peer mentorship and professional guidance. Each pillar of the program is thoughtfully and uniquely engaged throughout the week using workshops, hands-on activities, and intentional exercises. Personal development will be highlighted through learning life skills including meal prep, basic house maintenance, and communal living. Participants will be empowered in career development by being hosted by our corporate partners in a day at the office, tour of business, and meet and greet with executives. They will learn financial stability through basic budget and credit health classes by a corporate donor and working in teams to create and execute a budget for meals for the experience. Participants will coordinate with a local service organization to continue to be a living legacy through service to others; and this will also be showcased in the way they take care of each other during the Experience. The survivors will build upon their self-care skills throughout the Experience by learning tips to uplift and maintain physical, emotional, and mental well-being while engaging several high adventure physical activities. Attendees will sharpen their inter and intra communications skills throughout their time together, from conflict resolution skills to networking in a corporate setting.
The Young Adult Atlanta Experience will be Sunday, September 1 to Friday, September 6, 2019.
Young Adult survivors will be engaged in light-intensity activities to include some form of low-impact exercise every day including yoga, walking, paddle boarding, and a ropes course. No experience is necessary, however we ask that all attendees participate to the best of their ability.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, TAPS is able to provide this event to surviving young adults at no cost. Lodging, meals, activities and supplies for all attendees will be provided. A $25 refundable fee is charged at registration to hold your spot. You will need to cover the cost of travel to and from Atlanta.
The adventure begins early afternoon on September 1. Lodging is covered by the generosity of TAPS donors. Participants will need to cover the cost of transportation to and from Atlana, Georgia. The closest airport is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Flight scholarships are available by application.
