Alaska Survivor Experience
Event is full and application for this event is now closed. We encourage you to check out the TAPS Calendar for other ways to join your TAPS Family, both in-person and virtually, during 2022. For more information, please call 800-959-TAPS (8277).
All surviving adults 18 years of age or older grieving the loss of a loved one who served in the Armed Forces are warmly invited to join TAPS for our Alaska Survivor Experience.
All flights must be purchased and confirmed by February 1, 2022.
Due to fluctuating COVID-19 cases and unknown location challenges, we are requiring those participating to provide proof of full vaccination according to the CDC guidelines.
The grief journey takes us out of our comfort zone. But when we see that others share this journey, we can find new ways to grow and heal with a little more confidence.
Step away from the daily stressors of life and immerse yourself in a safe environment to help you connect with yourself, your loved one and others who understand. Explore Alaska, create new bonds and celebrate your fallen hero. You’ll learn to focus on yourself and be in the moment.
Move beyond your comfort zone with the support of others who understand at the Alaska Survivor Experience.
Day 1: Wednesday is your travel day. TAPS staff will be available to greet you and we will have an informal welcome reception, but there is no formal programming this day.
Days 2 to 4: We will participate in group activities, meals, cultural experiences and remembrance that will connect you with other survivors. There will be physical activities, such as extensive walking throughout the city, along with an optional 3 block dash, "Running with the Reindeer."
Day 5: Sunday, following breakfast, TAPS staff still will be available to bid you farewell. There is no programming or activities on this day.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and sponsors, TAPS will provide lodging, most meals and most activities at no cost to you. We will have an optional very late evening Northern Lights Tour that includes transportation, warming lodge, beverages, snacks and photos for a nominal cost of $140.00 per person.
LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION
Lodging will be provided for all attendees at a hotel in downtown Anchorage. You'll share a room with another retreat attendee. TAPS covers the cost of lodging at no cost to you, and we'll take care of booking your lodging for the retreat.
You'll need to cover the cost of your transportation to and from Anchorage. Please do not make travel arrangements until you receive a welcome email after registering. Once your registration is accepted, your flight must be purchased and confirmed by February 1, 2022.
This event is full and no longer accepting applications. Applicants will be notified of selection or waitlist status by the end of January. Applicants not initially selected to attend will be placed on a waitlist and notified as space becomes available.
