Charlotte Siblings Retreat
If you are a sibling grieving the loss of a brother or sister who served in the Armed Forces, you are warmly invited to join us for our Charlotte Siblings Retreat.
Step away from the daily stressors of life and immerse yourself in a safe environment to honor your loved one, be around others who understand, and embrace new experiences. Designed to challenge you emotionally and physically, all activities will help you to learn how to "be" in the moment and create new bonds with those who “get it.”
All participants must be at least 18 years of age.
Day 1: Wednesday is your travel day. TAPS staff will be available to greet you in the evening, but there is no formal programming this day. You can take the evening to relax and settle in.
Day 2: Following breakfast, we will have introductions and a group activity. Then we will head to axe throwing, a moderate physical activity that relieves stress and allows group bonding!
Day 3: We will travel to the U.S. National Whitewater Center, where we will utilize the world's largest man-made whitewater river, featuring class II-IV rapids. We will also go hiking on the property AND complete their high-ropes course!
Day 4: A group activity is planned for the morning, with some free time scheduled in the afternoon! Closing session will take place in the evening, and then you are welcome to spend the remainder of your time with your peers, or engage in some solo relaxation.
Day 5: Following breakfast, TAPS staff still will be available to bid you farewell. There is no programming or activities on this day.
This retreat is rated as a challenging/high-intensity active adventure. You will be participating in activities throughout the retreat which include: walking up to 1 mile, whitewater rafting, hiking, axe-throwing and completing a high-ropes course. There will also be plenty of time to relax and connect with fellow survivors.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and sponsors, TAPS will provide lodging, most meals, and all activities at no cost to you. A $50 deposit will be collected at the time of registration. At the conclusion of the retreat, you may choose to donate this deposit to TAPS to support future programs; otherwise, it will be fully refunded to attendees.
Lodging will be provided for all attendees at Hyatt Place - Charlotte Downtown. You will share a room with another retreat attendee. Lodging will be provided at no cost to you and TAPS will take care of booking.
You will need to cover the cost of your transportation to and from Hyatt House Charlotte – Center City.
