All adult survivors 18 and older are invited to join TAPS for our Triathlon Team Training Camp.

If you've set a goal to complete a triathlon this year, we can help! Bring your bike, swimsuit and running shoes to sunny California to build your triathlon skills. Hosted by TAPS staff and professional triathlon coach Mark van Akkeren, the Triathlon Team Training Camp will help participants become more comfortable and confident in each of the three race disciplines.

To further support you in that goal, we’ll use our time together to go over training plans, nutrition and recovery — and you’ll be able to continue to ask questions until your race day.

The TAPS Inner Warrior Program will help you find and connect with a part of you that’s committed not just to surviving, but thriving. We’ll build resolve and courage and get stronger every day.

Schedule

Day 1: The first day is set aside as a travel day. Once you arrive in Cambria, TAPS staff will be there to greet you and get you settled in.

Day 2: We’ll start out with a workout and a healthy breakfast. We’ll do at least two workouts every day as well as informational sessions on race selection, injury prevention, equipment and gear fitting, and nutrition and recovery.

Day 3: Our day will be filled with more workouts, nutritious meals and sessions on training volume, recovery and rest. We’ll be coached on running, swimming and cycling form depending on the day’s workouts. In between our workouts, we’ll all work together to create healthy meals.

Day 4: On our last training day, we'll talk about training plans and the ways we’ll support each other as we work toward our race goals. Coach Mark will advise us on form and injury prevention and answer all the questions about what to do, what to wear and what to eat during longer training workouts and on race day. You’ll have everything you need to make the next few months successful and create this version of yourself.

Day 5: We'll say our goodbyes and depart for home.

Training Camp Fees

A $100 deposit will be collected at the time of registration. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, TAPS is able to provide lodging, all meals, a T-shirt and coaching at no cost to you.

You'll need to cover the cost of your transportation to and from the event, some meals and your training gear (bike, swimsuit, etc.).

Lodging and Transportation

You will need to cover the cost of your transportation to and from Cambria. Please do not make travel arrangements until you receive notification of your selection or waitlist status.

To maximize the amount of time we spend learning from Mark van Akkeren, we’ll stay at a vacation rental property close to San Luis Obispo, California, where we can cook and relax together.

Skill Level

This event is for those interested in completing a triathlon in 2018. We’ll spend time each day on the road or in the pool, so you must have a basic comfort level on a bike and in the water swimming laps. You must also be ready to participate in run workouts. We will be coached, not instructed, so participants should have a basic knowledge of each sport from which to build.

Application Details

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all spots are filled, so we encourage you to apply early! Because of the amount of preparation required for camp, applicants will be notified of their acceptance status within three days. While you wait to hear from the TAPS Inner Warrior team after you've submitted your application, we encourage you to choose a 2018 race on which to focus your training and keep getting to know your gear and your body.

If you have any questions, please email innerwarrior@taps.org or call 800-959-TAPS (8277).
