This development session is offered quarterly to TAPS Peer Mentors.

TOPIC: Sharing the Mission of TAPS

The TAPS Peer Mentor Team invites you to join Davina French, TAPS Military Advisor and Senior Liaison as she hosts a conversation about TAPS resources and sharing the mission of TAPS. Davina briefs military advisors, National Guard units, and others about the various programs and resources TAPS provides. It is also important that our Peer Mentors are familiar with these resources so they can encourage mentees to engage in programs that can assist them as they navigate their grief.

Davina French

Davina serves as TAPS Military Advisor and Senior Liason. Davina was a commander and came to TAPS in 2005 after her military unit sustained KIA’s in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I. She volunteered for 14 years at TAPS events as her unit continued to experience casualties of war through suicides and deaths due to illness. She eventually retired from the North Dakota National Guard in 2019 and has since been employed at TAPS working with Military and Veterans Organizations across the nation. As a Veteran, she was provided many opportunities to deploy and serve her country. During Operation Desert Storm (1990-1991), she served in Saudi Arabia as a Movement Control Specialist on a team responsible for the planning of movements into theater and the retrograde actions of personnel, supplies and equipment. During Operation Iraqi Freedom One (OIF I 2003-2004), she served as Company Commander of the 957th Multi-Role Bridge Company, and then assigned to the reconstruction of Iraq while serving as the United Nations Oil for Food Manager for the Electricity Sector representing the Coalition Provisional Authority. A third deployment (2009-2010) to Kosovo, Lieutenant Colonel French (Ret) served as the Logistics Planner for a multi-country Peacekeeping Coalition. Her last position in the military was as a Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Commander and as the Military Legislative Liaison for the State of North Dakota. Davina is dedicated to the TAPS mission as she spreads the message of TAPS in military and veteran environments; supporting those who care for America’s Heroes.

About the TAPS Peer Mentor Program

The TAPS Peer Mentor Program equips survivors, at least 18 months past their loss, with the tools and skills needed to serve as a mentor to fellow survivors looking for support from someone who truly understands the unique aspects of military tragedy and who has walked in their shoes. A peer mentor is there to listen when you need someone to talk to, to be a friend when you're feeling lonely, and to celebrate the personal triumphs in your grief journey.

If you are an adult survivor at least 18 months beyond the loss of your own loved one and ready to comfort and give hope to another bereaved person, consider becoming a TAPS Peer Mentor.
