Surviving women whose loss occurred more than two years ago are invited to join the TAPS Empowerment Program at our Sedona Women’s Week of Renewal.

Surviving Women in Arizona

In the mental fog of grief, we sometimes feel a yearning for something more, but it can be hard to pinpoint what, exactly, that is. Join other surviving women at Sedona Mago Retreat Center as we step into mindfulness, reclaim our identity and create a new vision for our future.

This event will focus on the needs of our minds, bodies and spirits as we clarify our direction in life and create our own path to transformation. Using a combination of the arts, mindfulness, group discussion, and movement we'll learn practices to improve our resiliency and well-being while creating deeper self-awareness. We'll find inspiration in the beautiful desert landscape and from our TAPS sisters in creating a plan for healing and growth.

During our time together, we'll focus on building connections and fostering accountability within our group. We'll work to establish a supportive community that will provide encouragement and inspiration long after this event ends. Together, we'll honor the past, recognize the present and intentionally step into the future.

Who should attend? Due to the unique nature of this event, TAPS Empowerment events are intended for those survivors whose loss occurred more than two years ago. If you are within the first two years following your loss, we encourage you to attend a traditional TAPS Retreat or TAPS Seminar.

Schedule

Day 1: The first day is set aside as a travel day. Once you arrive at the Sedona Mago Retreat Center, TAPS staff will be there to greet you and get you checked in. Then, the day is yours to get settled in, meet fellow survivors, explore the property and relax.

Day 2: We'll start the day with breakfast and an opening ceremony, giving us the opportunity to introduce ourselves and our loved ones. You'll get an overview of what to expect at the event, along with the opportunity to ask questions. We will begin our practice together with programming aimed at self-discovery.

Day 3-5: Each day will include opportunities to try yoga and meditation. Group sessions will center upon themes such as gratitude, mindfulness, reflection and goal setting. Along with structured programming, the schedule will have built-in opportunities for solo work, rest and deeper personal reflection. Every evening, we will close our time as a group together.

Day 6: We'll say our final goodbyes and depart from each other.

Activities

Activities will include meditation, journaling, yoga, poetry, art, sound healing, group discussion and goal setting.

The event will include light-intensity activities. We will be doing some form of low-impact exercise every day including yoga, light hiking and walking. At the retreat center, walking on trails or uneven paths may be required. Survivors should make staff aware of any mobility issues in their application so that we can best accommodate special needs.

Please note that this is a technology-free event. We will ask that cell phones and other devices are only used for emergencies.

EVENT FEES

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and sponsors, TAPS will provide lodging, most meals and all activities at no cost to you. A $50 deposit will be collected at the time of registration. This deposit may be refunded upon attendance or you may choose to donate it to TAPS to support future programs.

LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION

Lodging will be provided for all attendees from Sunday to Friday. You will share a room with another event attendee. TAPS covers the cost of lodging at no cost to you, and we'll take care of booking your lodging for the event.

You'll need to cover the cost of your transportation to and from the event. If you plan to fly to Arizona, the closest airport is the Phoenix International Airport (PHX). TAPS will provide an airport shuttle to Sedona. Please DO NOT book your flight until you receive a notification of your selection or waitlist status.
