State Survivor Benefits For Georgia
Georgia’s Hero Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY
- Children and unremarried spouses
- Children must be under the age of 25 to receive benefits
- Service member must have served in a combat zone, any cause of death during or after combat service is covered; this does include suicide
- Service member must have been a Georgia state resident at time of death, student must be a Georgia state resident at time of application
- Can be used with federal benefits
- Benefits must be started within two years of gaining eligibility (for spouses)
BENEFITS
- Award of up to $2,000 per year and a maximum of $8,000 over four years
- Must be used at a Georgia state-funded post-secondary institution
- Can only be used for undergraduate degrees, with a maximum of four years of benefits
DOCUMENTS
- Copy of DD1300 or DD214
- Copy of student's birth certificate
- Copy of marriage certificate for spouses
- Copy of service member's death certificate
- Proof of selective service registration
