Survivor Care Team

Please note this program is specifically designed for survivors grieving the death of a military loved one.

At the heart of our survivor support outreach program is the TAPS Survivor Care Team, made up of TAPS staff members who reach out to other surviving military family members as peer professionals.

The Survivor Care Team members are your initial line of support, connecting you with all the resources and care TAPS has to offer. Calls, texts and emails from the team allow members to provide personalized support and create a safe space where you feel heard while also supporting your development of a long-term support system that can include a volunteer peer mentor.

Members of our Survivor Care Team have been where you are as a surviving military family member — and they’ve also been through extensive professional training on emotional peer-based support and traumatic death and grief. Thus, they are proud to serve as advocates, attentive listeners and companions on your grief journey.

TAPS Staff Helping Survivor

Reassurance, strength and loving care from the TAPS Survivor Care Team start as soon as we know of a need, and regular outreach continues. As survivors become more involved in the TAPS family, the Survivor Care Team continues to be present and engaged.

You’ll find members of the Survivor Care Team at all TAPS programs and events, as part of the TAPS Online Community and as regular contributors to our newsletters, blogs and publications. They reach out before events to make sure you feel comfortable and know what to expect and provide support as you handle the demands of grief and the changes in life.

Our model is grounded in the philosophy of companioning, which means we’re here to share the journey — walking with you, but not telling you where to step. If you're searching for more directed support, professional counseling referrals are available through TAPS Community Based Care.

If you need a compassionate, resourceful listener, we are here for you. Call our 24/7 National Military Survivor Helpline at 800-959-TAPS (8277). Day or night, a member of our team is ready to connect with you.
