TAPS Families of Fallen Military Heroes Come Together at Iditarod Race in Alaska

Anchorage, Alaska: As part of a healing retreat, 40 surviving military family members with Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) will be in Anchorage on March 2 for the start of the Iditarod Race. TAPS originated in Alaska in 1994 and is the nation’s leading national organization providing compassionate care and survivor support services for the families of America’s fallen military heroes.
Among the surviving military family members will be Carlos Arredondo who lost his eldest son Alex, a US Marine, in the war in Iraq and who later lost his younger son Brian to suicide. Mr. Arredondo is best known as the hero in the cowboy hat who assisted those injured in the immediate aftermath of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.
