"Land of the Free" book signing event to raise funds for veterans and Gold Star Family organizations
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 14, 2017
Nationally recognized artist Jane Chapin will be in Charlotte, N.C. April 26 for a book signing and April 28-30 for a three-day workshop. Chapin's books "Land of the Free" and "Land of the Free Gold Star Family Edition" will be available for purchase during the events, with 100% of sales going directly to several organizations that assist veterans and their families as well as Gold Star Families. A book signing and brief discussion with the artist will be held April 26, 2017 at 7 p.m. at The Duke Mansion 400 Hermitage Rd. in Charlotte, N.C.
The books are a result of a cross country painting trip Chapin began in 2007, in which she eventually painted on location or "en plein air" in all 50 states. The project, now in its tenth year, has raised funds for Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, the Gary Sinise Foundation, as well as several local charities at regional events around the country. Chapin's painting and workshop sales pay for the printing of the books, so that the books can be a 100% benefit. Each state's page of the books has a painting, a short historical reference and a veteran or Gold Star family story.
"I fell in love with America again. The realization of my freedom on the road reawakened me to the debt I owed our heroes, past and present. I began thinking of the paintings as symbols of the land they had fought to defend. I wanted to thank those who allowed me the privilege to wander freely across this great country and do what I love…"
This year the cover painting from the Gold Star Edition, "Hugging the Shore" will be honored as one of 75 paintings selected for the Art Renewal Center 2017 Salon Exhibition in New York City, later traveling with the exhibition to Barcelona, Spain.
