Coping Skills: Writing as a Healing Tool
We request you sign up at least 24 hours before you attend this session so that we can ensure the integrity of the group and answer any questions you may have.
Writing about your loved one and the emotions you feel can help in the healing process. When you share your writing with others, it introduces them to yourself and your loved one. In preparation for this session, participants are invited to write a short memory about their loved one. During the time spent together, participants will have the opportunity to share their writing with the group. All are welcome, especially those who also want to come listen and gather ideas for their own personal writing.
Schedule
We'll be using the online offerings in the month of February to think about the ways we tell our stories. We'll think about the ways we describe ourselves, our loved ones, and our lives. We'll practice ways to take down, record, or represent the events and emotions that become our narratives. We'll consider questions like whether or not grief is the biggest part of the story, for how long this may be true, and whether or not there are other storylines weaving their way through our lives.
We've plotted (pun intended) online sessions for February along these lines - online groups geared toward building supportive communities where your stories are safe, workshops that help us learn how to listen to ourselves and others, and coping skills sessions to help us discover what we want to say and explore new ways of self-expression.
What to Expect
Online groups are peer-led, facilitated sessions where there’s never pressure to share, but always an opportunity. Whether you attend once or regularly, you will always be welcomed. We value the importance of knowing that there are “places” we can show up and feel supported and inspired, and you can decide to connect with us every week or whenever it’s convenient or compelling.
Please remember that, while we anticipate that these groups will become engaging, encouraging community gathering “places,” you never have to wait if you need to talk. We’re always here for you, 24 hours, 7 days a week, year-round, at 202-588-8277.
