Helping Individuals and Families Coping with Grief: Best Practices for Grief Professionals
The TAPS Institute for Hope and Healing® is honored to bring internationally-recognized expert in grief and loss, Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, MDiv, to Arlington, Virginia for this 2-day seminar. Continuing education credits are available for professionals.
Understanding modern grief theory is essential in applying best practices to grief counseling and support. This workshop will empower grief professionals to recognize current understandings of grief and use them to effectively support the bereaved using interventive counseling techniques. Registered attendees will receive a series of short readings and exercises to complete prior to the workshop. The course will include lecture-discussion, small group discussions, role-playing, and other interactive experiences.
Day 1: Beginning with a basic review of grief concepts, participants will next explore six areas where previous understandings of grief have been challenged and developed. Dr. Doka will review research on grief interventions as participants consider the goals and techniques of grief counseling in individual, family, and group settings.
