Survivor Care Team Associate (Sibling Outreach)

Report to: Manager, Survivor Care Team

 

DESCRIPTION

This position will provide compassionate care and connection to programs and services for military survivor families who contact TAPS seeking emotional support stemming from grief related to the death of a military family member, the death most frequently due to traumatic and sudden circumstances.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to inbound calls received from Survivors either directly or through Helpline
  • Provide grief support, needs assessment, and facilitate survivor connection to internal programs and services
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals for follow-up to third parties when necessary
  • Manage case load and provide follow-up support to Survivors according to care protocols
  • Maintain proper documentation of all Survivor contact in TAPS Survivor Database
  • Augment Survivor records with additional information obtained from 3rd party sources, such as obituary data on the deceased from web-based sources, and data provided by Service Component Casualty Affairs
  • Occasional travel in support of TAPS Survivor events
  • Apply training to assess suicide risk and develop safety plan
  • Work collaboratively within the Survivor Services team to address Survivor needs

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a military surviving sibling, a minimum of two years post loss
  • Advanced degree in psychology, social work, or related field preferred
  • 5-7 years experience in the field or in a related area in lieu of degree 
  • Able to work independently, well organized
  • Must be tactful, compassionate, and reliable
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Able to exercise sound judgment and discretion
  • Possess intermediate skills in MS Word and MS Excel
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus
