  • Children and spouses, remarried or unremarried
  • Service members cause of death must have been killed in action or died of service connected disabilities on or after 9/11, Suicides are covered provided it can be proved that they were service connected (PTSD)
  • Service member must have been a Utah resident at time of death
  • Can be used with federal benefits


  • Waiver of full tuition
  • No fees, room, board or books are covered
  • Can only be used for a bachelor’s degree
  • Must be used at a Utah funded post-secondary institution


  • Copy of DD1300 or DD 214
  • Copy of student’s birth certificate
  • Copy of marriage license for spouses
  • Copy of service members death certificate
  • Proof of residency
  • Letter of certification from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs
