Dependents Tuition Waiver


  • Children, step children and spouses (remarried and unremarried)
  • Service members cause of death must be ruled line of duty by the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Service member must have been a North Dakota state resident at time of entrance into service or time of death, or surviving parent has to have established 5 years of residency in the state after death
  • Can be used with federal benefits


  • Waiver of tuition and fees
  • Does not include room, board or books
  • Must be used at a North Dakota state funded postsecondary institution
  • Must be used within 10 semesters
  • Can only be used for undergraduate degrees


  • Copy of DD1300 or DD214
  • Copy of student’s birth certificate
  • Copy of service members death certificate
  • Copy of marriage certificate for spouses and stepchildren
  • Proof of residency

Application due date: No later than 30 days after the semester begins
