War Orphans Tuition Waiver


  • Children and stepchildren if considered dependents by the VA
  • Children must be under the age of 25
  • Service member must have been killed in action, or died of a combat related injury, suicides are considered on a case by case basis
  • Service member must have been a Montana state resident at time of entry into service and student must be a Montana resident at time of application
  • Can be used with federal benefits


  • Waiver of tuition
  • Does not cover room, board, books or fees
  • Must be used at a Montana state funded post secondary institution
  • Can only be used for undergraduate degrees


  • Copy of DD1300 or DD214
  • Copy of service members death certificate
  • Copy of marriage license for stepchildren
  • Proof of residency
  • Most recent transcripts
