Suicide Loss Survivor Assistance

A death by suicide can leave behind a wake of emotions and challenges that complicate the grieving process even more. Many of us question why this happened and what we might have done to prevent it. We worry that our loved ones will be remembered for how they died instead of how they lived and served.

The way our loved ones died is not the defining feature of their lives. Suicide loss survivors have a safe space within TAPS to remember, honor, and grieve the whole story. Special TAPS programming and resources provide gentle, understanding support as we work through the difficult questions. We have created a family of suicide loss survivors who is walking this journey together and will welcome you with open arms.

Each fall, TAPS creates a sacred space of hope, help and healing for survivors of suicide loss in the form of the National Military Suicide Survivor Seminar. Bringing together surviving family members and loved ones from all parts of the country, this TAPS Seminar offers an opportunity to connect with others who understand your loss, find resources and learn how to tell your story — and that of your loved one.

Every TAPS Regional Seminar includes a special opportunity for suicide loss survivors to come together to create a sense of community and belonging. The suicide loss survivor sharing groups allow you to start the seminar off by connecting with others who understand your loss. Find a TAPS Regional Seminar near you.

As part of the TAPS Online Community, there is a safe space where suicide loss survivors can find connection with and support from your TAPS family. We come together online to share our stories and learn from others’ experiences. We have a peer group specific to suicide loss in the military. Join us as we wrap our arms around one another and share stories of hope, help, and healing.
