TAPS Peer Mentors Mobile App

TAPS is excited to offer Peer Mentors a secure way to build relationships, keep training lessons at hand and provide updated information.  We designed a special “app within an app” for our Peer Mentor community.

Peer Mentors with Certificates

The system will work just like our normal event apps, but will be created within our larger event app as an event exclusively for Peer Mentors and TAPS staff moderators.  You will find downloads of training information, motivational pictures and can use the activity feed to stay in touch with other Peer Mentors and learn from them. We have added topic channels for areas of interest and other new ways to learn and stay connected. As the app grows and more Peer Mentors participate, we will continue to add new resource features and ways to connect.

We are adding Peer Mentors on a rolling basis.  You will soon receive a special invite via email with the password to join the Peer Mentor event.  TAPS Peer Mentors are survivors ready to be a companion in another’s grief journey, ready to support an event, lead a care group, support a 1 day TAPS Together event, and the best recruiters. Peer mentors often find that helping others is an effective way to continue their own healing. Remember, this group is only open to trained or in-training Peer Mentors. We want you to have a safe place to talk and share about your experience as a survivor and a Peer Mentor.

How to Download the App

The app is now available on iOS and Android devices and can be downloaded in the App Store and Google Play store by searching “TAPS Events." The app will move up in rankings as more people search for it, but if you don't see it at the top of your search results, just scroll down and look for TAPS Events. 

Security Verification & Access

New this year is the 2-step security verification, which requires an individual email and password for each adult user. The password will be emailed to Peer Mentors registered for 2017/2018 events and other active, trained Peer Mentors. If you think you should have access to the app and haven't received an invite by December 15, 2017 please fill out this quick access request form. TAPS staff will update your record and confirm your access to the mobile app as quickly as possible--usually within two business days. 

What’s my Username & Password

The password for the 2017 Peer Mentor app will be directly sent via email invitation to active, trained and in-training Peer Mentors. Your username is the email you used to register. If you previously downloaded the app for another event, you will continue to use the first password you were assigned. If you forgot your password, email appsupport@taps.org for assistance. 

Getting Started

Once you’ve downloaded the TAPS Event app, you’ll see a list of events for which you are registered and authorized to access. Select the "2017 Peer Mentor Training & Community" event.  If you are a new app user, you will be prompted to enter your email and password to gain access to the event information. 

Setting Up Your Profile

You can immediately set up your profile (click top left corner), add a photo and link your social media accounts. Our social feeds for comments using #hopehelpheal, #gratefulnation and #tapsfam will pull directly into the mobile app and users can post from the app directly to their social media accounts.

How do I access info about other TAPS events I attend?

There is also an event app for each National and Regional event that puts the event schedule, speaker info and workshop detail right at your fingertips. Those can be found under the "More" menu at the bottom right.   

Is there any way I can help at other events?

Peer mentors attending one of our events have the ability to help TAPS staff and survivor care team members monitor the app's activity feed and respond to survivor questions and concerns.  Often, first time attendees may express anxiety over attending and a quick reply from a trusted, trained TAPS representative can help set them at ease.  We appreciate your efforts to engage with other survivors and walk beside them as they attend one of our life changing events. 

How long will the app be live?

Each event app is “LIVE” for one year after the event and you can continue to connect and offer support to survivors and each other via the event’s activity feed long after we’ve all returned home. 

Have a competitive spirit?

The app also recognizes super users and influencers who help connect survivors to each other and to resources at the event on the Leaderboard.  If you have a competitive spirit, check out the leaderboard for your progress.
