North Carolina Wellness Weekend
All adult survivors 18 and older are invited to join TAPS for our North Carolina Wellness Weekend.
The TAPS Inner Warrior Program will help you find and connect with a part of you that’s committed not just to surviving, but thriving. We’ll build resolve and courage and get stronger every day.
Make the decision to focus on your health and wellness! Join us for a long weekend of innovative movement, nutrition guidance and camaraderie at the TAPS North Carolina Wellness Weekend.
During our time together we'll explore the body's response to stress and grief, teaching you how to release muscle tension, self-doubt and patterns of negativity. Through hands-on workshops, workouts and discussion, we'll share and practice skills for living a healthy life — physically, emotionally and mentally. You'll learn effective strategies for a greater sense of both self-empowerment and self-ease as you continue through your personal grief journey.
Your growth won’t stop once the event ends. You'll gain an ongoing community of support with Inner Warrior coaches and peers to keep you inspired, encouraged and accountable.
Day 1: We’ll begin with dinner and programming around 6 p.m. Our first evening together will be one of fellowship and ceremony, setting the tone for our weekend of movement and growth.
Day 2: The second day starts early with a run/walk along the ocean (wherever you are in your running journey, it's OK — even if you're at the walking part!), information on stretching, warming up and cooling down. We'll move into sessions on supportive core, mobility and strengthening exercises. We'll round out the day with discussions of habituation, motivation, supportive nutrition, hydration and injury prevention.
Day 3: A run or run/walk session starts the day. Afterward, we'll learn more about small changes that can have big impacts. We'll talk about self-care and accountability, identify supports within your friends and family, and discuss strategies for cutting out negativity so you can be the person you want and need to be. We’ll also talk about the trauma-healing diet and the role of nutrition.
Day 4: Our last day together will be one of reflection and goal-setting. Our closing session will leave you sweaty, proud and determined.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and sponsors, TAPS will cover lodging, most meals, transportation while at the camp, health and wellness coaching, expert workshops, activities and a T-shirt. A $50 deposit will be collected at the time of registration. If your plans change unexpectedly, the fee is refundable until Sept. 20.
You'll be expected to cover the cost of your transportation to and from the event, some meals and your exercise gear (athletic shoes, fitness clothing, etc.).
The wellness camp will be held at the beautiful Fort Caswell retreat space located on the Atlantic Ocean.
Lodging will be provided for all attendees at the retreat center. TAPS covers lodging at no cost to you, and we'll take care of booking your lodging for the event.
You'll need to cover the cost of your transportation to and from North Carolina. Participants should plan to be at the retreat center around 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, and stay through mid-afternoon on Sunday, Oct. 14. Please do not make travel arrangements until you receive a confirmation email after registering. Once registered, we'll send you a welcome email that will have information about flight itineraries, packing lists, cancellation policies and additional event details.
This event is open to all skill levels. Ability to walk and willingness to participate in fitness activities to the best of your ability is the only physical requirement. We'll have low-impact/low-intensity workouts for those getting started as well as more intense workouts for those at a higher fitness level.
Registration opens Monday, July 9, and is conducted on a first come, first served basis. A waitlist will form once registration has reached capacity. Inner Warrior events fill up quickly, so we encourage you to register now!
