State Survivor Benefits For Michigan

Children of Veterans Tuition Grant

ELIGIBILITY

  • Children only between 16 and 26
  • Service members cause of death must be ruled line of duty or due to a service connected disability by the Department of Veterans Affairs,
  • Service member must have entered service from Michigan or been a Michigan resident at time of death, student must be a Michigan resident
  • Can be used with federal benefits

BENEFITS

  • A scholarship of up to $2,800 a year with a total of $11,200 for 4 years
  • Amount of scholarship is not to exceed total amount of tuition including other grants and scholarships
  • Can only be used for an undergraduate degree
  • Must be used at a Michigan state funded postsecondary institution

DOCUMENTS

  • Copy of DD1300 or DD214
  • Copy of student’s birth certificate
  • Copy of service members death certificate
  • Proof of residency
  • Completed application
