State Survivor Benefits For Florida
Scholarships For Children And Spouses Of Deceased Veterans
ELIGIBILITY
- Children and unremarried spouses only
- Children must be between the ages of 16 and 22
- Spouses must apply within five years of the death of the service member
- Service member must have been killed in action or died of a service-connected disability on or after Oct. 7, 2001
- Service member must have been a Florida resident for at least one year immediately prior to death, student's residency requirements are determined by the university
- Can be used with federal benefits
BENEFITS
- Financial aid used to pay tuition, fees, books, and room and board
- Funds up to 110 percent or required credit hours for bachelor’s degree only
- Covers a maximum of four years
- Must be used at a Florida state-funded postsecondary institution
DOCUMENTS
- Copy of DD1300 or DD214
- Copy of service member's death certificate
- Copy of student's birth certificate
- Copy of marriage license for spouses
- Florida financial aid application
- Certification from the VA
- Proof of residency
