Peer Mentor Program Manager

Reports To: Director of Strategic Operations, Survivor Services 



The Peer Mentor Program Manager is a full-time position managing one of the four core services of the TAPS mission: Peer-Based Emotional Support. This position will manage program staff to ensure the recruitment, training, engagement, retention, and recognition of Peer Mentors. This vital program provides force multiplication for TAPS by embedding trained, survivor volunteers across programming and events, both in-person and virtually, as well as enhancing outreach and networking in local communities to expand support for military survivors nationwide.



  • Works with Director of Strategic Operations, Survivor Services to execute strategic plan, in alignment with program vision
  • Develops processes, policies, and procedures related to the recruitment, training, engagement, retention, and recognition of Peer Mentors for effective and efficient program delivery
  • Manages Peer Mentor Program staff to execute the program in accordance with the mission, goals and objectives of the organization
  • Plans and ensures execution of basic Peer Mentor Training
  • Collaborates with appropriate staff, including the TAPS Institute for Hope and Healing, to ensure development of advanced training opportunities for Peer Mentors
  • Develops marketing strategy and oversees internal and external communications to ensure visibility of Peer Mentor Program on TAPS website, in TAPS magazine, social media, and other TAPS media and print  
  • Conducts annual program surveys and provides support with statistical reporting to evaluate program impact
  • Collaborates with TAPS staff to identify Peer Mentors for program support
  • Provides monthly reports to direct supervisor to show program highlights and development
  • Supports program execution as needed in support of program staff
  • Identifies training opportunities for program staff to enhance program delivery
  • Conducts annual staff performance evaluations
  • Approves program staff expense reports according to company policy



  • Military Survivor preferred
  • Degree in psychology, social work, or other applicable field
  • 3-5 years of experience managing a team
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic environment, with time sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to manage projects and operate independently, with a task-oriented focus
  • Ability to travel to attend regional or national survivor seminars, up to 10 times annually
  • Ability to work strategically and think creatively
  • Must be tactful, compassionate, reliable, non-judgmental, and patient team player
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be at ease in public speaking and facilitating groups
  • Able to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Demonstrates basic skills in Google applications and Microsoft Office tools
  • Must possess a professional demeanor
  • Able to troubleshoot, identify viable options and problem-solve
  • Possesses conflict resolution skills
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus
