Grand Canyon, Arizona

We invite all adult survivors 18 and older to join us on the Grand Canyon South Rim Expedition as we gain radical perspective and overcome a true personal challenge.

TAPS Expeditions are outdoor skills-based events that require dedication, preparation and a real sense of adventure.

TAPS Grand Canyon Expedition

On this physically demanding backpacking trip through America's greatest natural wonder, we'll hike on steep, rocky trails with dramatic elevation gains and losses. Along our trail from the South Rim to the canyon's floor, we'll be rewarded with awe-inspiring views, unique rock formations, springs and waterfalls. Once at the canyon's floor, we'll cool off in the water, camp under the stars and share stories about the lives of our fallen heroes.

Leading up to the trip, we'll form a team bond and gain familiarity with each other through team meetings to discuss training regimens, gear lists and more. Your team will be a source of encouragement as you train for this adventure and an ongoing support network after the expedition is complete.

Please note we will have two trips depart during this time. The first trip will take place April 6 - April 9. The second trip will take place April 7 - April 10.  TAPS Expeditions staff will contact you shortly after your application is submitted to discuss the next steps and the trip dates that work best for you.

If you're unsure if this event is for you, complete an application and TAPS Expeditions staff will connect with you to share more about our program and this event.

This trip is being put together through a partnership with REI. For more information, visit www.rei.com/adventures.

SKILL LEVEL

This is a strenuous and physically demanding trip, but it will be your most rewarding experience if you prepare correctly. You must be in good physical health and obtain a physician's release prior to the trip. Proper training will allow you to fully enjoy the trip and all the Grand Canyon has to offer. You will need to be able to hike up to 11 miles with dramatic elevation gain and loss while wearing a 30- to 45-pound backpack. TAPS Expeditions staff will recommend training programs to help you prepare for the trip.

If you're unsure if this event is for you but the adventure excites you, we encourage you to submit an application
