David Greco was
born in
Norristown, Pa.,
a suburb of
Philadelphia.
The oldest of
five children,
he graduated
from Villanova
University with
a BA in
economics and
was commissioned
a Second
Lieutenant in
the United
States Marine
Corps in 1980.
After
commissioning,
he reported to
The Basic School
in Quantico, Va.
Greco was
then transferred
to Fort Sill,
Okla., for
training as a
Field Artillery
Officer, with a
follow-on tour
in the Fleet
Marine Force at
Camp Lejeune,
N.C. During that
tour of duty,
Greco made
several
deployments,
including a
deployment to
Beirut, Lebanon,
where he led
recovery
operations
following a
terrorist
bombing of the
Marine Barracks.
Greco later
attended the
Advanced
Artillery School
at Fort Sill,
with a follow-on
tour in
Twentynine
Palms, Calif.
There he
commanded
November
Battery, 5th
Battalion, 12th
Marines and
deployed to
Desert
Shield/Storm as
the Aide-de-camp
to the
Commanding
General 7th
Marine
Expeditionary
Brigade. During
this tour, Greco
earned an MBA
from National
University.
Promoted to
Major, he was
assigned to
Headquarters
Marine Corps as
the Head of the
Casualty
Assistance
Section.
After leaving active duty, he held various positions in the
civilian sector before returning to the Navy as a civil servant and
head of the Casualty Assistance Branch, Navy Personnel Command.
Maintaining his affiliation with the Marine Corps, Greco is
currently assigned to the 3rd Battalion 23rd Marines. In his
capacity as the head of the Casualty Assistance Branch, he was
responsible for policy regarding personnel casualty reporting,
notification and assistance to families of seriously injured and
deceased Sailors. He was also responsible for POW/MIA affairs,
Service Members Group Life Insurance, Military Funeral Honors
Support programs and the Navy's Emergency Coordination Center.
His personal
awards include
the Meritorious
Service Medal,
Navy-Marine
Corps
Achievement
Medal, Combat
Action Ribbon,
and the
Department of
the Navy
Meritorious
Civilian Service
Award. He and
his wife Kathy
live in
Woodbridge, Va.,
with their two
daughters.
