The Honorable Kit Bond

Christopher Samuel "Kit" Bond was re-elected to a third term in the United States Senate in 1998 on his strong record of fighting for Missourians in Washington. Throughout his tenure, Bond has won legislative victories fighting for education reform and children's issues, bringing tax relief to working families, working for a balanced budget, combating juvenile crime, and championing the causes of small businesses.

As a member of the Budget Committee and the Chairman of an Appropriations Subcommittee, Bond played a key role in restoring fiscal sanity to the United States government through passage of the first balanced budget in a generation in 1997, and holding the line on spending in subsequent years. He was also the lead Republican responsible for the passage of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Bond has extensive experience in state government, as well. He was twice elected as Governor of Missouri, in 1980 and 1972. Previously, he was elected State Auditor in 1970, after serving a year as Assistant Attorney General.

First in his class, Bond received his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1963. He received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1960, graduating cum laude from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.

Born March 6, 1939, Sen. Bond is a sixth-generation Missourian.
