Overview of the Program for Adults
This special program brings together all those in the region who are grieving the death of a loved one who has died while serving in the armed forces.
The focus of the sessions both for adults and for children will be as follows:
  • Meeting others from the region and discovering that we are not alone in our grief and finding in sharing our sadness we could lessen our pain.
  • Learning about grief and traumatic loss from the very best experts and developing an understanding of how we can best cope and find comfort.
  • Sharing with others in peer based support groups for all who are grieving, including widows, parents, siblings, significant others and all who are touched forever by their loss.
  • Establishing a plan to move forward with support and care, including local area gatherings and participation in national programs.
Overview for the Children
TAPS Good Grief Camp Team Leaders will conduct a day of activities for children of all ages, providing a safe place to learn about grief, share feelings, express emotions and heal young hearts.
  • Children will meet others their own age who are also grieving and have the chance, in facilitated groups, to learn that they are not alone in their feelings.
  • Through special activities we call “grief work,” the children will have fun while discovering how to cope with the pain they are experiencing.
  • The children will end the day by creating a network of care to lean on as they move forward.

Attendees:
  • Lodging for those staying overnight will be arranged either in the community or on Fort Carson in guest housing.
  • RSVPs will be taken by TAPS staff and coordinated with appropriate protocol and security staffs at Fort Carson.
  • Continental breakfast and a simple lunch will be arranged for the families.
  • Access to Fort Carson for those without ID Cards (parents, siblings, etc.) will be coordinated with appropriate security personnel.
Remembering the Brave Ceremony

The Armed Forces are steeped in tradition and formality. It is only fitting that similar respect is considered when honoring the families of our brave. The Remembering the Brave Foundation was formed to ensure that the names and deeds of our fallen service members are always remembered. We accomplish this difficult but enduring mission by holding ceremonies and banquet dinners for our Gold Star families and the service members who served with their sons and daughters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers. During these ceremonies, military service members or other honored guests present to the families full mounted sets of medals representing their loved one’s service to this great nation. We also create and present scholarships, and other awards honoring the names of our heroes. One of the most important things we do is attempt to locate and provide transportation for service members who served with our fallen heroes so they may sit with our Gold Star families. These service members often desire to participate in the ceremony honoring their friends. Together, military members and Gold Star families are able to reflect and to heal in an atmosphere of loving remembrance and honor.

IT IS IMPORTANT YOU REGISTER FOR THIS CEREMONY NO LATER THAN JUNE 30 so we can ensure the elements of the ceremony are prepared and so we can ensure that we have the time and resources to provide transportation for service members to the ceremony. Contact Remembering the Brave at 303-325-1575 for more information and to reserve your table.
