Answers from Survivors
Responses from Survivors to last week's question: What is one of the funniest things your loved one did?
From Bob, father of John: Kitty, John, his wife Delfie and I had all gone to the Big Island of Hawaii for R & R for John. While there we visited several touristy sites and among them was the Volcano House. We were standing outside looking into the cauldron of lava when a voice came from behind me and said, "Bob, what are you doing here?" I turned around and said, "Mrs. North, how are you?" This was a teacher from my school who had retired about four years earlier. John looked at me and said, "My God, do you know everybody?" This occurred after three other encounters on the island where I had recognized different people. I further replied to him, "And you always wondered how I knew what you kids were doing." I think he remained baffled for years.
From Kelsey, mother of Michael: I was making a salad and asked Bear to help. I gave him a head of lettuce and told him to hit it on the counter to take the stem out. He rammed it down and lettuce flew everywhere. I said, “I guess that's my fault for asking a Marine to hit lettuce!”
Sheryl, mother of Adam*: Adam and his father were both theater majors in college. One Christmas they dressed up as kings and sang a disco version of “We Three Kings.” The rest of the family laughed until we cried. I smile whenever I hear that song.
If you would like to send a message thanking one or all of those who participated in this week’s Saturday Morning Message, send it to me at online@taps.org and I will make sure your thoughts are passed along to them.

Question for Next Week’s Saturday Morning Message
The question this week was given to me by Lalaine, daughter of Francisco. It is: What is one dish you ate that brought you comfort in the early stages of your loss? Was it something someone made for you? Was it something you made for yourself? We should have some interesting answers to this question. We look forward to your responses.
Questions are the backbone of the Saturday Morning Message. In order to keep the Saturday Morning Message fresh, I am looking for more questions. If you have questions or topics you would like to see addressed in the Saturday Morning Message, you can email me at online@taps.org. I directly receive all responses that are sent to this address. Replies to the weekly question are best sent to me by Tuesday morning. You are an important part of this message, and I look forward to your questions or any ideas you may have.
♫ Song for the Week
This week’s song, "Memories," sung by Maroon 5 is from Leslie, mother of Eugene, who wrote, “We do wish our loved ones were here, but they are not. The memories and love are what we have left. So true.”
You can send me favorite songs for this song of the week section at online@taps.org and include a note about why the song is meaningful to you.
