Senior Manager, Institutional Donors

Reports to: Director of Development
Location: Remote or Hybrid, Arlington, VA
Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Institutional Donors is a strategic frontline fundraiser responsible for securing new and renewed investments from foundations, corporations, and other institutional partners. This role leads the full lifecycle of institutional giving—including prospecting, cultivation, proposal development, grant writing, and closing high‑value awards.
The ideal candidate brings demonstrated success securing six‑ and seven‑figure institutional awards, with the ability to drive a first‑year revenue goal exceeding $1M in new business. A strong understanding of restricted funding, budget development, and cross‑department collaboration is essential.
Responsibilities
- Institutional Fundraising & Pipeline Development
- Identify, research, and qualify new institutional prospects across foundations, corporations, and aligned philanthropic entities.
- Build and manage a robust pipeline capable of generating multi‑million‑dollar annual revenue.
- Develop tailored cultivation and engagement strategies for high‑value prospects and existing partners.
- Lead donor meetings, presentations, and site visits in partnership with senior leadership.
- Proposal, Grant, & Budget Development
- Write compelling letters of inquiry, proposals, grant applications, and corporate partnership pitches.
- Translate programmatic priorities, impact data, and organizational strategy into persuasive cases for support.
- Collaborate with program and finance teams to develop accurate, compliant budgets for restricted funding requests.
- Ensure all proposals reflect organizational priorities, funding needs, and compliance requirements.
- Closing & Stewarding Institutional Partnerships
- In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Impact and Reporting, manage stewardship plans that deepen engagement and position partners for renewal and growth.
- Maintain exceptional donor communication, ensuring transparency, accountability, and mission alignment.
Data, Systems, & Accountability
- Maintain accurate donor records, proposal pipelines, and reporting schedules in the CRM.
- Track performance metrics and contribute to departmental dashboards and revenue projections.
- Support continuous improvement of institutional giving processes, templates, and systems.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of progressive nonprofit development experience, with a focus on institutional fundraising.
- Demonstrated success securing six‑ and seven‑figure institutional awards
- Exceptional writing skills with a strong record of producing winning proposals and grant narratives.
- Strong understanding of restricted funding, grant compliance, and nonprofit financial structures.
- Experience with budget development for grant proposals and restricted awards.
- Ability to build strong relationships with institutional funders, senior leaders, and program staff.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and emotional intelligence.
