MSE Foundation and Washington Capitals Launch Courage Caps, Presented by Telos Corporation, to Support Families of Fallen Military Heroes

Courage Caps and T-shirts available beginning Tuesday Feb. 20

ARLINGTON, Va. - Courage Caps, Washington Capitals team-issued branded hats and T-shirts, will go on sale beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation and the Washington Capitals announced today. The Courage Caps campaign is sponsored by Telos Corporation with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).

TAPS is a nonprofit organization that provides compassionate care for all those who are grieving the death of a military loved one. Funds raised will provide critical services for surviving families, including camps for grieving military children, casework assistance for survivors facing challenges, a 24/7 resource and information helpline for bereaved military families, free and unlimited grief counseling support, and a national network of peer-based support connecting over 75,000 TAPS families across the country.

Courage Caps and T-shirts, presented by Telos Corporation, will be sold starting at $20 online at WashCaps.com/courage, at the Washington Capitals Team Store at Kettler Capitals Iceplex and at the Team Store and at merchandise stands throughout Capital One Arena during Capitals home games. There will also be a limited number of autographed Courage Caps available for sale at the Team Store and the stand located at section 107 at Capital One arena during Capitals home games and online at WashCaps.com/courage.

Since the program began supporting TAPS seven seasons ago, it has raised nearly $800,000 for the organization and its programs.

For $50, fans can purchase a Courage Cap or T-shirt signed by Caps super stars Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson, Braden Holtby, T.J. Oshie, Alex Ovechkin or Tom Wilson; for $40 fans can purchase a Courage Cap signed by any other individual player. Capitals Fans will be able to order hats signed by any rostered player online.

To launch the 2018 campaign, select Washington Capitals players will host nearly 150 children and adults who have lost a loved one in military service and found healing through TAPS at a skating party at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Saturday, Feb. 10 following practice.

Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors 
The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) is the national organization providing compassionate care for the families of America’s fallen military heroes and has offered support to more than 75,000 surviving family members of our fallen military and their caregivers since 1994. TAPS provides peer-based emotional support, grief and trauma resources, grief seminars and retreats for adults, Good Grief Camps for children, case work assistance, connections to community-based care, online and in-person support groups and a 24/7 resource and information helpline for all who have been affected by a death in the Armed Forces.
