Caregiver Frequently Asked Questions
Caregiver to Military Survivors training is available through the TAPS Online Training website and costs $25. This course discusses the myths of grief, fundamentals of the grief and adaptation process, the uniqueness of military grief, grief and trauma, and ways to help the bereaved. You can also view slides from a series of webinars TAPS held for caregivers on our Professional Education past webinar listing page.

We deeply appreciate your willingness to get involved and support surviving families of our fallen military. You can sign up to volunteer your professional services using our volunteer guide found on Volunteer Central. Because survivors may be scattered across communities, we sometimes find that caregivers who can provide confidential online or phone counseling are helpful. We also sometimes need volunteer counselors and caregivers to provide support for a TAPS event or TAPS Care Group.

Survivor resource kits are available for surviving family members and are mailed directly to survivors. Families can request a resource kit by completing the Join Our Community intake form or calling TAPS at 1-800-959-TAPS (8277).

TAPS has a limited supply of brochures. We can provide 1-25 brochures for caregivers to place in their offices as a resource for military survivors. You can request brochures by calling TAPS at 1-800-959-TAPS (8277).

This guide is meant to help military survivors think through their financial options amidst the chaos and confusion following their loved one's death. It discusses emotions and money, benefits, budgeting and financial terms. Professional caregivers can request one copy as a sample from melissa@taps.org. Survivors can request a copy for free from melissa@taps.org. Any additional copies need to be purchased online from the Quick Series website.
